Yes she was hammy, but the brilliance of it was that there was an underlying sexual tension happening because Sherlock did not feed her hamminess. There was domination play between them, and any game of authority is on some level sexual. I think that beyond the obvious sexuality of Irene Adler’s naked body and her physical contact with Sherlock, there was a more subtle and genuine sexual story being told. Such is the brilliance and perversion of Moffat.
